Ethical issues with Racism, Healthcare, and the Workplace
The first ethical issue that I believe to be the most important and am concerned with is racism. At the core of racism is the belief that one race is superior to others, which then results in ethical implications, including denial of human rights, inequalities, and social injustices. Despite being proven time and time again that race is a social contract and that racism was created so that people could own, rape, and kill slaves without consequences, racism still has pervasive contemporary implications. Today, it manifests in several ways, for example, overt acts of discrimination to subtle systemic biases embedded within institutions. Racism continues to undermine the fundamental principle of equal treatment and respect for everyone, resulting in the marginalization and social stratification of minority groups. Human races will always be diverse, and in order to ensure that everyone is treated equally, a more inclusive and equitable society marked by fairness and respect needs to be fostered by all.
The second ethical issue that I am concerned with is healthcare ethics. One is in regard to patient autonomy, whereby I believe that patients should have the right to make their own decisions on how they want to be treated. For instance, euthanasia should be up to the patient and not the government. Some patients are too sick and in so much pain to continue to live with dignity, and euthanasia is an act of compassion to help them end their suffering. Another ethical issue in healthcare is in regard to access to care and medical equity. Disparities in healthcare access and outcomes often reflect broader social inequalities, disproportionately affecting marginalized groups.
The third and last ethical concern I have is in regard to the workplace, where issues like discrimination based on sex, gender, sexuality, and race, among others, can occur. This is in addition to other unethical practices like low wages, exploitation of workers, sexual misconduct, and bullying, just to name a few. Upholding ethical behavior in the place of work is vital for fostering a positive work culture, improving employee satisfaction, and guaranteeing that the organization operates with integrity and accountability.
